Tuesday at PGL

Posted by itstherealone on Tuesday May 24, 2016 Under Uncategorized

After a good breakfast everyone has headed off to the activities: raft building, archery, Jacobs ladder and fencing. This evening we will be having a campfire.

Mrs Mann came to visit us and enjoyed watching the children take part in the activities and chatted to them about the trip.

Everyone managed to hit the target at least once, some managed to hit the colours and some were very accurate and hit the bulls eye. Before the children and adults were let loose with the bows and arrows a very through training session took place, so all were confidant when it came to their turn. Each person had three arrows and the trainer supervised their first shot. At the end of the session the children played a game, on team had to win cutlery to eat their lunch and another team had to win toppings for a pizza. The toppings for the pizza are listed below along with the toppings the children won.

Toppings: red (R) = pepperoni, yellow (Y) = cheese, blue (BLu) = red pepper, black (Bl) = burnt pizza and White (W) = mushrooms.

Jacobs Ladder

This was an activity that needed courage and cooperation. In their teams the children had to help each other climb up a number of ladder rungs. Cooperation was needed as the distance between the rungs got wider. Children could climb up as far as they wanted before being lowered to the ground. Some children enjoyed having the chance to go high whilst others challenged themselves to go part way up. What ever their personal challenge they were successful. Another part of the challenge was to look after the safety ropes that were attached to those climbing and once again the children were fantastic and everyone ascended and descended safely. All children showed great courage and cooperation. Well done.

I liked it because we could use team work and help each.

Quad Biking

IMG_5394 Unfortunately adults were not allowed to join in but the children had a great time. They were introduced to Julia and her friend (the quad bikes) and taken through the training routine. The children then went out in pairs and were taken through their paces individually, everyone progressed at their own speed. Each child got individual attention whilst on the quad bike. After the training session they were given the choice of completing the circuit with a trainer attached to the bike via a cable or under their own steam. I think everyone enjoyed it and some surprised themselves.

Raft Building

Raft building was successful and cold (Miss Roberts and Mr Lawton went in.

Camp Fire

Toasted marshmallows (the adults did the toasting), songs and games were enjoyed by all.

Monday at PGL

Posted by itstherealone on Tuesday May 24, 2016 Under Class 4's school trip May 2016

We arrived safely and a head of time, so after being met by Jake (he is looking after us) we had and early lunch before playing games. After which, we left our luggage at the hostel Grantham, the adventure began.

Jake gave us a tour of PGL going through the rules of behaviour and showed us the mustering point we would assemble at each day before going off to the various activities. It was also the point we would go to in an emergency. All the children had a good time and tried everything.

The activities for the day were Trapeze and Survivor.

The Manor. We did not sleep here, we just made use of the facilities.

The children were split into three teams before the activities started and each team was allocated a qualified instructor. They and the teachers / TAs were all trained before taking part in any of the activities.

Getting ready and having a go, including all school members of staff.

I enjoyed the trapeze. I felt nervous at the top just before jumping off but I did it. RS

I completed and enjoyed trapeze and found it quite easy because I’m not scared of heights. RMW

Before taking part in this activity each team was split into to boy or girl teams. The girls were better at building / completing the dens.

Screen Shot 2016-05-23 at 20.12.43In survivor we stared off as if our plane had crash-landed in a PGL adventure course. We then pretended that it was night and that the PGL staff were evil. After that, we had to make a big HELP sign using things that were in the backpack (the backpack was given to us by our leader). The backpack had coloured flimsy plastic cones, two short pieces of string and one long piece in it. We also used sticks and our water bottles because we didn’t have enough materials to carry out the survival task. We used the extra materials because after we had made the sign we found we didn’t have enough to make the H.

After that, we snuck around PGL dodging all the staff (because they were evil). We would hide in the bushes while the PGL staff walked by, a couple stopped to look and then kept going. JM

Screen Shot 2016-05-23 at 20.23.15I enjoyed building the dens because we worked as teams and had specific jobs. We were successful in making the dens. I liked painting my face, it felt stiff but I would do it again. FE

Evening meal was before the last activity of the day.
